Initial Consultation
Unlike some nutritionists, we don’t force our predetermined plans on you. Instead we work together to make a realistic, feasible plan with goals you can actually attain.
We don’t command or dictate, we supervise and guide you. We provide professional recommendations and creative solutions for the issues you face. You provide feedback about what is working for you. We work together to make modifications to your plan as you make progress.
We are ready to help.
What you want and need matters. Your personality type and lifestyle also play a role. Since you must take command and implement the actions we plan, your voice matters!
Our approach is truly nonjudgmental. We listen attentively to what you have to say, and put ourselves in your shoes to come up with practical options for you.
What We Will Do In This Session
What we do together depends entirely upon your health concerns and needs. A good nutrition program is largely dependent on your state of health, and your willingness and ability to change unhealthy habits into healthful ones, and your goals.
The solutions we develop for — and with — you are based, in part, on your current level of knowledge about food and nutrition. The more you know, the more information we can cover in our initial meeting.
Follow-up sessions help to clarify and reinforce the solutions we come up with and, generally, provide for greater success; however, they are not mandatory. Any session, including the initial consultation, can be conducted in person, over the phone, or even by e-mail.
Outcomes of This Session
The assessment is an information gathering session where we review your:
- Medical history and any medical reports you can provide
- Lifestyle and family life
- Work schedule, stresses, and pressures
- Stress levels
- Individual characteristics (including, for example, your likes, dislikes, habits, wants, and needs)
- Food preferences
- Health and weight goals
- Current health status
- Current food intake
- Diet and eating habits
- Medication and dietary supplement use
- Exercise habits
- Sleep habits
- Energy and enthusiasm
- Readiness and willingness to change
You will walk away from this session with a rough draft of how we will proceed. When we reconvene at your next visit, we will provide a detailed plan that provides the structure (or flexibility) you want and need.
As with all our services, if you like, we will follow up with your other healthcare providers and update them when appropriate.
